Using Edwina Guckian’s book “Sparks on the Flagstones” as a stimulus, this workshop will explore artmaking and folklore.
Create work using folklore as a stimuli for art-making across a variety of materials, skills and techniques.
Explore folklore as a stimulus for engagement in traditional and contemporary arts and craft.
Explore folklore as a stimulus for discrete and integrated learning experiences in Art, Drama, Music and other art forms (e.g. song singing and dance)
Engage with multiple interpretations of folkloric stories connecting to local community, Ireland and diverse cultures.
Examine Irish Folk Traditions and Calendar Customs to explore seasonal art-making practices in the classroom.
Tuesdays: February 24th, March 3rd, 10th and 24th at Drumcondra Education Support Centre from 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Facilitator Bio:
Edwina Guckian is a folklorist, dancer, author and community activist from Co. Leitrim. She is artist in residence at Marino Institute of Education.
Dr Eileen Keane is Lecturer in Education (Visual Arts), programme leader of the MES (Visual Arts) at Marino Institute of Education and co-editor of the International Journal of Art and Design Education.
